Frequently Asked Questions
It is a misconception that it is ok to neglect a pool through the winter months. If you do not continue to balance your pool, the water may become extremely acidic, or alkaline which can have lasting consequences on your pool surface (such as bleaching, black spot algae) and on your pool machinery (such as perished rubber and plastic fittings). The pool water may appear clear throughout winter, but can in fact be harbouring large amounts of algae which will equal major costly problems when you come into the warmer months. This can all be avoided by maintaining your water health throughout winter. Our prices reflect the fact that less chlorine will be used during winter.
If a pool is kept balanced over the winter months it will avoid the following situations…
- Damage to pool equipment (pipes, fittings, filter, excess moisture in pumps causing pump failure etc)
- Damage to pool surfaces (poor balance can cause etching and staining to your pool surface)
- Costly chemical start ups at the beginning of the summer
- Harbouring of algae which then blooms as soon as temperatures rise causing a sudden green pool
Pool Panthers has been birthed out of listening to our thousands of customers. We found that the majority of them didn’t mind vacuuming and backwashing their pool, they just didn’t have the time or the patience to drive to a pool store and then get completely confused by a concoction of chemicals and processes. So the simple answer is no, this is not a traditional valet service. We are for the customer who simply wants to take the hassle out of their pool water health and clarity.
When it comes to the balancing chemicals (left side of our instruction sheet), they should be added as soon after our technicians visit as possible. Start with the first one and then move through the list as per the instructions. When it comes to the maintenance chemicals (listed on the right side of the instruction sheet) we recommend that you set one day aside each week and make that your ‘Pool Day’ – the day where you carry out the maintenance cleaning and chemical additions. The Panther Shock, Panther Prevents and Panther Tabs can all be added at the same time.
No. We have designed the service to cause as minimal disruption to your life as possible. As long as we have access to your pool and crate of chemicals, we don’t need to see you. If there is anything amiss on out visit, we will contact you by phone.
Yes we can. We have a full range of parts and hardware which we can supply to you as a Pool Panthers customer with a loyalty discount applied. We also have a team of experienced service technicians who can sort out any technical issues that you may experience.
There is no wait time for swimming after any of the chemical additions except for the Panther Shock which you should wait a couple of hours before swimming.
These doors are called weir doors and are quite often missing from skimmers, they do however play an important role in creating a slight waterfall effect which draws the surface water into the skimmer at a faster rate. This means you skim more leaves and helps to increase the pool circulation. They also stop the debris in your skimmer basket from floating back into the pool when your pump switches off. We definitely recommend you make sure you have one in your skimmer.
Yes we do, we have a wide variety of pool systems under our care now. We welcome the opportunity to discuss a plan for your specific set up.
This is actually a myth, however we suggest that you keep this legend alive so that your kids can continue to pass it down through the generations – oh yeah, and also to keep your pool clean.
