“After spending years in a Pool Store analysing thousands of water samples, solving countless problems, and after owning a pool myself, I finally asked the question that I was absolutely certain thousands of pool owners have asked themselves over the years - “Is there a better/easier way to look after my pool water?” …I began the journey to find out if there was.
I established that most people don’t mind getting outside every couple of weeks and giving their pool a clean, and that the majority of pool owners accepted that there is a cost to running a pool.
Without exception, I found that pool owners preferred to spend their money on preventing their pool from going green, staying a step ahead, rather than playing catch up to a green pool every season, causing large one off costs and countless hours slaving poolside - they just didn’t know how to achieve this.
The path of my journey, and the pool owner’s ‘dream’, met at exactly the same point…and here is that point - there needs to be an easy-to-follow water treatment programme, with set pricing, using top quality products available at trade prices and a pool professional checking the pool water regularly.
“Boy that sounds easy” I hear you say… actually it was.
I sat down and worked out a way of fulfilling this pool owners ‘dream’. My next step was convincing the boss that we should give it a go…after about 4 seconds of deliberation, he gave me the go ahead.
From there we pulled together the technical minds of pool owners, pool builders, servicemen, valet managers and chemical importers and brainstormed the idea which has now become Pool Panthers – ‘Perfect Pool Water Made Easy’
Stage1. The very first Pool Panthers customer visit involved me working out the back of my humble Honda Odyssey with a temporary water testing station, a printer, a laptop, chemicals and of course, a bit of no.8 fencing wire.
It didn’t take long for us to realise that we were onto something unique here, a service that pool owners have been screaming out for, even if they didn’t realise it was possible.
Stage2. It was time to kick start the setting up of mobile pool labs in vans throughout Auckland. We designed unique Pool Panthers water analysis software, and developed a simple chemical addition programme customised for each pool we were to visit, along with an easy to follow instruction sheet.
For the last 2 years we have been rushed off our feet by Aucklanders who are desperate to be a part of this cutting edge service, and to think it all started by me simply listening to what you wanted. Our customers range from huge indoor lap pools in Gulf Harbour, to small vinyl pools in Manurewa, from the coastal properties in Kawakawa Bay, to the rural ranges of Kaukapakapa. This service has definitely struck a chord with New Zealand pool owners, from those who have looked after their own pool for 30 years, to those who are brand new pool owners.
